Shavkat Mirziyoyev: Today’s Young Entrepreneurs Reflect Progress of New Uzbekistan

On November 17, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Youth Industrial and Entrepreneurial Zone in Termez.

According to the Presidential Decree of April 21, 2021, Youth Industrial and Entrepreneurial Zones will be created in all regions of our country, providing favourable conditions for young entrepreneurs.

At present, one such zone has been established in the Tinchlik Makhalla of Termez city. A total of 42 projects in the building materials, chemical and petrochemical, furniture, food and textile industries are housed in buildings covering an area of 2 hectares. Preferential loans from commercial banks under the Young Entrepreneurs Support Fund can be used to purchase premises, equipment and set up production. Once all the companies are up and running, more than 500 jobs will be created.

The Head of State inspected the products of the companies located here. One of them produces pomegranate juice and exports its products to neighbouring countries. Another company has started producing clothes and carpets, providing employment for women.

The President emphasized the need to create such industrial zones in every district of the region and to develop handicrafts and home-based activities in makhallas. Instructions were given to develop a separate programme for the development of youth entrepreneurship in Surkhandarya based on two years of experience and to propose measures to attract $50 million for its implementation.

"Today's young entrepreneurs are the result of the new Uzbekistan. They have new knowledge and new approaches. Therefore, the industrial zones should be handed over to the youth. This will be a ready-made 'project factory' for the regions. Responsible officials should only support companies in implementing innovations and entering the market. The main focus should be on cost, quality and competition," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

At the same time, it was noted that the region's youth have great potential in sports, but existing facilities are limited to a few types of sports. In this regard, a project resolution will be developed to involve the youth of Surkhandarya in sports, with up to 30 billion Uzbek soums allocated for this purpose. A base for canoeing and kayaking will be established at the Uchkizil reservoir.

Local industrial products and investment projects were also showcased. In the Surkhandarya region, 82 investment projects with a total value of $4.6 billion are being implemented, including $4 billion of foreign direct investment. These projects will produce value-added goods and create tens of thousands of jobs in the energy, chemical, mining, construction, textile and other industrial sectors.
