New Ambassador of Uzbekistan arrives in Ankara

ANKARA, June 17. /Dunyo IA/. Yesterday, Ilkhom Khaydarov, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Turkiye, arrived in Ankara, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

On the same day, the diplomat presented copies of his credentials to Ambassador Ahmet Cemil Miroğlu, Director General of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye.

 

During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye, the parties discussed prospects for further deepening of Uzbek-Turkish bilateral relations within the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership, as well as multilateral cooperation within international organizations. Special attention was given to the upcoming participation of the Uzbek delegation in the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to be held in Istanbul on June 21–22.

 

The discussion also covered the organization of reciprocal visits and joint events at various levels, including political consultations between the foreign ministries of both countries.

 

The sides exchanged views on the development of trade and economic cooperation, strengthening of business ties, and expansion of cultural, humanitarian, and tourism relations.

 

Ahmet Cemil Miroğlu wished the newly appointed Ambassador of Uzbekistan every success in his diplomatic mission and expressed readiness to provide full support in establishing direct contacts with the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkiye (DEİK) in Istanbul.

 

Ilkhom Khaydarov is 56 years old. He had served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan since July 2024.

 

He graduated from Tashkent State University (now the National University of Uzbekistan), the Russian Foreign Trade Academy, and the International Cotton Institute in Memphis, USA.

 

He has held various positions within the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations of Uzbekistan (now the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade), worked as Trade and Economic Counselor and Ambassador to Ukraine.

 

From 2009, for 15 years, he headed the State Joint-Stock Company "Uzbekyengilsanoat" (transformed to Association of Textile and Garment Industry). Concurrently, from 2021 to 2024, he served as the Chairman of Uzbekistan Employers Confederation.

 

He is fluent in English and French.

 

Ilkhom Khaydarov succeeds Alisher Agzamkhodjaev, who was recently elected Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investment, and Tourism. Alisher Agzamkhodjaev previously served as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Turkiye from 2017 to 2025 and concurrently as Ambassador to Bulgaria since 2018.
